Okama Crater Lake
Okama is a crater lake known for its emerald green water surface.
Many wonder what color it is in winter.
This tour offers you the chance to go all the way up to Okama from the Zao Ski Resort with a seasoned mountain instructor.
Mt. Kumanodake
Mt. Kumanodake peaks at 1841 meters of altitude over the Zao mountain range linking Yamagata and Miyagi prefectures.
The scenery from the top of Mt. Kumanodake when the weather is clear is breathtaking!

After joining with the instructor at the Zao Sanroku Station of the Zao Ropeway, we ride on the gondola.
We change gondolas at the Juhyo Kogen station and aim for the Jizo Sancho station at the altitude of 1661 meters.
The scenery below is all white ☆
After reaching the Jizo Sancho Station and praying at the Zao Jizoson statue, the trekking starts!
Snowshoe trekking headed for Mt. Kumanodake and the Okama crater lake from Jizo Sancho with a mountain instructor!
The Okama Crater lake is one of the climatic destinations of this tour.
This scenery is only observable in this season!
*Please note that the Okama may not be visible if the weather is bad, so it will be left to luck to admire or not this scenery.
This is the scenery from the top of Mt. Kumanodake!
When the weather is clear, you can see Mt. Chokai, Mt. Gassan, Mt. Hayama, the Asashi Mountain range, the Iide Mountain range, the Agetsuma Mountain range and many others.
*Only luck will tell what the scenery will look like!
This is the Mt. Zao Shrine at the top of Mt. Kumanodake!
This type of rime ice is called a "shrimp tail" and is created by snow and water blown by the wind on trees and rocks.
You can fully enjoy various scenes of nature during the trek.
Summit of Mt. Jizo when the weather is bad.
The mountain instructor will put the safety of the participants first and may decide during the trek that, due to the weather, it is safer to turn back, or that a different route needs to be taken, or that any of the original destinations cannot be reached safely and as such a different trekking course will be implemented.
